Scenthound Signs 20-Unit Development Deal in Virginia & Maryland

Scenthound, the nation’s first wellness-focused, membership-based dog grooming franchise, is ready to help dog parents in the Mid-Atlantic keep their fur family clean and healthy. On the heels of selling out the Atlanta market last month, Scenthound signed yet another 20-unit development deal with new franchisee, Dean DeGood, who will bring the emerging dog grooming concept to Virginia and Maryland. This brings Scenthound’s franchise total to 80 units sold across 9 states with 16 franchise partners. Scenthound plans to sell 100 units and open about 30 locations this year.

Before joining Scenthound, DeGood owned and operated Doggywalker.com, a dog walking and pet sitting service in Virginia with more than 85 employees and 70,000 annual pet visits. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, a regional leader in community-focused animal welfare. DeGood holds an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. With a strong passion for animals, DeGood looks forward to continuing his animal care efforts with his new Scenters this fall.

“Both my professional and personal life is completely centered around dogs and improving their lives,” stated franchise partner DeGood. “After learning about Scenthound, I became a stronger believer in their concept and the impact they make in both pet and their owners’ lives. I am excited to continue making a meaningful difference in dog communities in Virginia and Maryland, as Scenthound has been able to do across the nation.”

Scenthound takes a wellness-based approach that is dedicated to improving health and quality of life for dogs. Embedded in the name, Scenthound focuses on the five core areas of maintenance: Skin, Coat, Ears, Nails and Teeth. Their employees (“Scent Techs”) are trained to provide every dog with the care it needs on a regular basis, and the membership program gives dog parents peace of mind that their dog is being cared for routinely. Pet parents can select an affordable membership plan most appropriate for their dog and purchase additional services on an as-needed basis.

The concept was founded in 2015 after CEO Tim Vogel spent more than 10 years running both a mobile grooming business and local grooming shops, seeing firsthand the shortcomings within the booming pet industry and the lack of education surrounding dog care. Vogel began a mission to give dogs and their owners a fast, easy, and affordable solution that not only keeps them clean and looking great but maintains their overall health and wellness.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dean to Scenthound, along with his animal-centric background, which will serve him well as a Scenthound franchise partner,” stated Tim Vogel, CEO of Scenthound. “Educating pet parents plays a critical role in our goal of removing barriers so that people can love and connect with their dogs every day. Dean’s background, passion and knowledge will be very valuable in helping us achieve our mission of keeping dogs clean and healthy throughout the Maryland/Virginia region.”
